RESOURCES FOR EDUCATORS

We offer you a range of activities included in different teaching units on this page, as well as documentation to create a study on the degree of risk of infection to which young people in your school are exposed, helping students to carry out work on the subject of HIV and AIDS from a scientific viewpoint and simultaneously working on social, ethical and legal aspects.

The aim of this website is for IrsiCaixa researchers to spread their knowledge in order to promote the prevention of HIV infection through education. The main content that we are providing revolves around the following questions:

  1. What is HIV and what is AIDS and how many people are infected?
  2. What is the process of infection like and how can we prevent it?
  3. What are the mechanisms of action of existing drugs and the lines of research into new medicines primarily for the development of a vaccine?
  4. Is the tightening of laws and legal processes a good response to behaviour involving the risk of transmitting HIV?

We also invite your students to contribute to the prevention of AIDS by facilitating the dissemination of this content. To do this, you can share it with your friends or even develop your own communication tools by creating PowerPoint presentations, videos or sculptures and disseminating these through our blog and in communities of interest in your area, both within and outside your educational centre.

You can also share your organisation of classroom activities with other educational centres through the blog. We would especially like to recommend a classroom activity on the transmission of HIV infection that was conducted at the Valerià Pujol i Bosch secondary school in Premià de Dalt.

In addition, the aim of IrsiCaixa is also to promote scientific careers, specifically in the area of HIV/AIDS, that will likewise contribute to the fight against HIV.

STUDY ON THE LEVEL OF RISK OF INFECTION TO WHICH YOUNG PEOPLE EXPOSE THEMSELVES

As a parallel activity, each educational centre can also organise a study on the degree of risk of infection to which their students expose themselves. The results can be sent to divulgacio@irsicaixa.es so that we can draw some general conclusions.
